It is one of the least intuitive facts in this trade: an oversized air conditioner produces a less comfortable house than a correctly sized one, and costs more to buy and run while doing it.
The reason is that cooling has two jobs. Dropping the temperature is the obvious one. Removing humidity is the other, and it only happens while the system is actually running and air is passing over a cold coil.
